On June 30, 2020, during an emergency rulemaking meeting, the Florida Board of Opticians adopted a rule that all continuing education hours for the biennium ending December 31, 2020, may be acquired from courses without classroom instruction. Emergency Rule 64B12ER20-28 Continuing Education Required for License Renewal, was effective upon filing on July 1, 2020, and is in effect for 90 continuous days.

64B12-15.001(2) is amended as follows:

(a) Within each license renewal biennium, each licensed optician shall complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing professional education, according to the criteria set forth in these
rules. A maximum of 5 hours of continuing professional education may be earned from courses without classroom instruction.

(b) For the biennium ending December 31, 2020, the restriction on permitting a maximum of 5 hours of continuing professional education, which may be earned from courses without classroom instruction, shall not be effective, and all such hours can be earned by other means, as set out in 64B12-15.008(1).

For more information regarding the effects of this Emergency Rule on your continuing education requirements, please contact the Board Office by email at: MQA.Opticianry@flhealth.gov.

CE Providers who do not have current approval to instruct a course without classroom instruction are encouraged to review the course requirements found in rule 64B12-15.008, F.A.C., and apply for Board approval through the CE Broker system. To ensure a streamlined review of the application and coursework, all documentation specified in rule is required to be submitted at the time of application.
