Does Florida have reciprocity with any other states?

No. All applicants must take the Florida State Board Examination. They must also meet the requirements to be certified eligible to sit for the examination.

How many hours are required to renew my license?

20 hours every biennium.

How many hours are required for laws and rules?

2 hours.

How many hours are required related to the Technical practice of Opticianry?

11 hours.

If I go inactive will I still need to obtain continuing education?

Yes, proof will be required upon reactivation.

What are the continuing education requirements to reactivate my license?

20 hours for every biennium you are inactive with applicable fees.

How many home study hours can you obtain in a biennium?

5 hours per biennium.

Are Opticians required to take an HIV/AIDS courses?

Yes, one hour only on the 1st renewal.

I am Board Certified to dispense contact lens, how many technical contact lens hours must I obtain for renewal?

4 hours.

How do I change my name?

The Division of Medical Quality Assurance is now issuing electronic licenses, which enables you to download a PDF copy of your license within two business days. The license can be retrieved in the License Documents menu of your MQA Online Services Portal, https://mqa-vo.doh.state.fl.us/datamart/voservicesportal account. How do I update my address?

What do I need to get started in the new MQA Online Services Portal?

You will need access to a desktop or laptop computer with a compatible web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome) installed, your social security number, date of birth, and your mailing address zip code currently on file with the Department of Health.

Note: MQA Online Services is not fully compatible with all mobile devices or Apple Safari at this time.
